Reporting
After the radiologist or other physician has reviewed the ultrasound pictures and written a report on them, that report is then shared with the doctor who ordered the ultrasound. It also becomes part of your medical records, or "chart."
The length of time from ultrasound to report may vary from under an hour to several days. It is a good idea to ask your ultrasound technologist how long it may take. We usually know!
Some medical systems include a way for you to access these reports. This may be called a patient portal, and it can be a convenient way to track testing and results and have access to them at any time. It is good to be aware that you may see your results before your doctor has a chance to. If your think it will make you anxious to get the report before your doctor you may wish to wait for a call or message rather than checking in the patient portal.
